Aoshima, the cat island

Aoshima, Ehime prefecture, September 4 2015 - Abandonned houses in Aoshima island. Due to Japan demographic problem and rural exodus, the population decreased from 800 residents in the 1960ies to 15 in 2015.
Aoshima (Ao island) is one of the several « cat islands » in Japan. Due to the decreasing of its poluation, the island now host about 6 times more cats than residents.
