Motomachi & Chojuen Apartments
Hiroshima, Japan, September 10 2016 - Motomachi & Chojuen Apartments, designed by Masato OTAKA, were completed in 1978 to provide housing after the area was destroyed by the atomic bomb. Nearly 10% of the current residents are "hibakusha", survivors of the atomic bomb. OTAKA designed the building with a metabolist spirit: the main frame would remain (as a the structure of a city), while the sub-frame (the apartments) could be adapted according to the residents needs.
