Ameyoshi, February 24 2012 - A stone tablet stands on the border of the road leading to the small village of Aneyoshi, Miyako. The stone warns residents : “Do not build your homes below this point” and “high dwellings ensure the peace and happiness of our descendants.” It was erected in 1933 after several deadly tsunami devastated the former villages.
