Kew Gardens
London, UK, 23 September 2019 - Located inside the Palm House at Kew Gardens, Eastern Cape giant cycad (Encephalartos altensteinii) arrived at Kew in 1775. It is considered as the oldest pot plant in the world.
Kew Gardens in southwest London are part of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, a botanical research and education institution, employing 1,100 staff. Kew Gardens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003 and its collection include 27,000 taxa of living plants, 8.3 million plant and fungal herbarium specimens, and over 40,000 species in the seed bank. In 2018 the organisation had 1,858,513 public visitors at Kew.
